Ghostery : The Browser That You Need !

Have you all been wondering who's watching you while you browse or are you tired of all the ads and pop up messages that arrive when you browse the web.
Well then the solution to your problem is Ghostery.
Ghostery is a browser application that is available in the Play Store and is currently free of cost. It is a great browser and I've been using it for over a week now. It shows you the trackers that a website loads when you are browsing and it allows you to start/pause the blocking whenever needed. The list of trackers shown is accurate and it offers full control over your browsing experience. It allows you to browse without any tension and you feel free and safe.

The UI is pretty simple and minimalistic, its a combination of blue and white. The interface is similar to any other browser out there. There is an area for your link, icon for creating new tabs, a small blue ghost ( will get back to it later ) and 3 vertical dots for various settings such as viewing history, bookmarks, requesting desktop sites etc.

The settings area has 3 sections, GHOSTERY section allows you to toggle ON/OFF auto-update tracker library, block new trackers and various tacker blocking options. The GENERAL settings section allows you to choose the search engine, clear history etc and last the ABOUT section shows you the version, number of trackers etc.

Now lets talk about the small Blue colored GHOST. This blue ghost shows you the trackers that a website is trying to load and allows you to manually allow any tracker if you want. It even allows you to pause blocking and even add a website to the Whitelist. So the center of attraction here is the small blue ghost, this small ghost is everywhere it's even the icon of the browser. It looks cool and performs well..  So good job GHOST !!  You can download the Ad Control app for further control and details.

So GHOSTERY browser is a must have app, you should download it and start using it if you need to see whose tracking you and it's automatic even a non-tech guy can stay safe and can block ads easily.

Here's the download link for GHOSTERY :

Whats On My Android July 2014!!

Whats on my android ????????
Well first
What all Android Devices i'm using ??

1) Moto G
2) Google Nexus 7 Wifi - 2012

You all might be wondering that these phones are nowhere near the flagship devices out there in terms of performance etc and yeah you are right. These devices ain't the high performance devices but they are in my view the perfect value for money devices out there, they can handle and perform most of the tasks that you throw at them and they are well build. I went off topic !! Hehe, well now let's get back to Whats on my android?

The following are the apps that I'm using this month:

1) Launcher: (Aviate + Moonshine Icon Pack)
I'm using Aviate because it's clean, ram friendly, functional and simplified + I'm in love with the Dark Theme. I'm using the Moonshine Icon pack because it gives an Android L feel...

To grab Aviate from the play store Click Here
To grab Moonshine Icon Pack Click Here.

2) Keyboard: (Android L Keyboard):
I'm using the Android L Keyboard (I guess I was lucky enough to grab it before it was removed from the store). I'm in love with the minimalist material design and the color scheme + it's different from the others   and I guess using a different keyboard is sometimes pleasant to the eyes.... Well as the keyboards been removed from the store, my second option would be SwiftKey as its free.
To download SwiftKey Click Here.

3) Messaging: (EvolveSMS) :
EvolveSMS is a great messaging app, I love the concept of the app and its usability. For eg: if i'm reading a text message and I receive a new text, the app asks me if it should load up the new text or not. The navigation from thread to thread is pretty simple + composing a new message is fast and easy as the app already displays your favorite contacts. In my view its a great replacement for the stock messaging app.
It even offers customization options such as different themes, color schemes etc.
To download EvolveSMS Click Here.

5) Planner: (Any.do):
I'm in love with Any.do, it allows me to plan my day by simply reminding me of the total number of tasks remaining and gives me options to cancel, snooze or plan. If I select it shows up a beautiful animation which presents me with my tasks and gives me a few option to schedule them. Even if I miss a call, it asks me if I'd like Any.do to remind me to call the person later. If i'd like to reject an incoming call, it gives me an option to send a text with custom messages or the ones already present there. I just love it !!
 To download Any.do Click Here

6) Camera (I have 2 apps):
Camera app hmmm, well I'm using the Motorola Camera app (Stock) and the Google Camera app. I use the Motorola Camera for all my usual photographic and video recording needs. I use the Google Camera for the Lens Blur feature when I need it although the other features such as Photo Sphere don't work on the Moto G.

7) Notifications: (Head's Up Notification):
I'm currently in the frequency of Android 5.0 L, so I am using the Head's up notification app to mimic the notification style in Android L. The notifications appear over the screen and the task you are performing is not interrupted, one can continue with the task he/she is performing and even see the notifications. To dismiss the notification a finger swipe to either left or right does the job and to take perform an action on a particular notification you are provided with a few sets of options. The app basically gets the job done perfectly. It's a must try app if you are in the mood of some Android 5.0 L flavor.

8) Other Note Worthy Apps:

a) Speakle: ( Share your secrets with anyone anywhere anonymously) To download Click Here

b) Software Data Cable: (Allows you to share files, apps etc by simply creating your device into a WiFi hotspot ) To download Click Here

c) Secrets: (This app was a great hit on the Apple's App Store, it's on android and it's a great hit here too. It is used to share secrets, your friends like it, it spreads and so on!!) To download Click Here

d) TuneIn Radio ( As the name suggests it's a Radio Service, it allows you to choose from a huge number of international channels and it's great) To download Click Here

e) IFTTT (This app puts the internet to work for you, eg: lets you know if it will rain tomorrow, it changes your profile photo on twitter when u change it on facebook and so on. The capability is unlimited). To download Click Here

Well this is What's on My Android July 2014. If you have any thoughts leave them in the comment section below and let me know whats on your android ??
What's on My Android August comes next month so stay tuned and Happy Androiding !!  Enjoy.

AVIATE LAUNCHER:

When Aviate was in its Beta Phase, I was eagerly waiting for the invite and it took long enough. But I got the invite and I tested it in it's Beta phase and honestly, I was kind of disappointing, it felt dull even with the light and dark theme options I wasn't satisfied.

Fast Forward to Today >>>>>>>>>

I'm using Aviate again and it's out of its Beta Phase. It's improved a lot, a lot of new features have been added such as icon pack support, swipe up to see your favorite contacts, widgets support, better menus and i'm in love with the Dark Theme. It feels simpler and much more cleaner. It even has a great number of spaces assigned for work, listening, today etc etc. Its even RAM friendly :)  and supports devices with Android 2.3 and above.

The home screen looks like this with the dark theme:

 These are the SPACES available:
This is the Collections Tab:

and this is what the App Drawer looks like:

In my view Aviate is a must try app and once you get used to it, there's no going back. But everyone has their own choices and android is all about customization. So go ahead and give it a try!!

SwiftKey Goes Free

SwiftKey is one of the best and fastest keyboards out there on the Play Store. It was a paid app on the Play Store but was totally worth it and guess what now ITS FREE !!!
The keyboard offers various themes, so that you can color it according to your liking. I just love the keyboard, its fast and predicts almost perfectly (Even predicts EMOJI), it uses SwiftKey Cloud to predict your typing style so there's no scope for errors.

Cryptolocker-Like Ransomware Spreading On Android

Well Android has had many flaws with its security and here a cryptolocker like ransomware is tricking people into paying up.

Once installed, the malware dubbed KolerA, disables the infected device and forces you into paying a heft amount to settle the charges.
Well its a trojan and it uses the geolocation function to tailor the warning to whichever country the user resides. This image is a UK based warning and users from other countries will get a different warning. The malware prevents the users from accessing their homescreen, making it impossible for users to use the other apps installed on the device. Well pressing the home button removes the warning but it returns after a 5s gap.
The users can however pay online using untraceable payment mechanisms such as paysafecard or uKash.

The discovery of Koler.A comes 18months after researchers from Symantec found that so-called ransomware extorts an estimated $5 million a year from users of traditional PCs. Ransomware refers to malware that disables computers and demands that cash payments to be paid to purported law-enforcement agencies befor the machines are restored. Recently ransomware scammers upped their game by building strong cryptograohy into malware, known as Cryptolocker, that holds entire hard drive until end users pay a Bitcoin ransom of $300.

How does Koler.A enter your device ?
Android offers the capability to side-load apps, and this is where Koler.A found a way in.
An adult-website would to download a player known as BaDoink, saying that it would offer better adult-content and a better quality. Then the app is downloaded to your device, installing the app provides Koler.A a new home.
It is only possible if you have allowed applications installation from Unknown Sources. However when u click on the .apk file you are prompted to install or cancel the installation of the app.
If you click Install, the app is installed and Koler.A enters your device.
However clicking Cancel, aborts the installation and you are safe.

How to save your device ?

1) Turn off installation from Unknown Sources. to do so follow the instructions below:
Go to Setting --> Security ---> Unknown Sources.

2) Or if you prefer side-loading apps, then be aware of what you are installing and

BE AWARE OF BaDoink {Brings along, Koler.A}

Customizing Your Device ? Here's Buzz Launcher

The customization level Android offers is unmatched. No other OS is capable of doing this. The possibilities are unlimited, everyone can have a different look on their device every day. Recently I tried Buzz Launcher.

This launcher is a beauty. The number of themes it has, support for icon packs and the best part, it's not ram hungry.
Here are a few screenshots I took. {This is the most basic theme out there}

Chadder By McAfee

John McAfee and his new company, Future Tense Private Systems (FTC), have released an encrypted chat messaging app for mobile users. The app is named 'Chadder' and it is now available on Android and Windows Phone, with an iOS version due in the coming weeks. The app is meant to address the growing concerns of mobile users who worry about government eavesdropping, especially after the Edward Snowden NSA leaks in the news.

Well Chadder is simple and robust. Its currently in its 'early beta' phase. Though the core services are up and running.
After starting the app, users are greeted with a sign up/in screen, all u have to do is create a username and password, providing additional details is optional.
The app encrypts messages with only odd characters coming through if someone were to intercept the communications. Other users can find u with your username and connect with u. Well no one in my circle is using Chadder right now so I could not test the app and had no one to chat with. The app would need a number of updates to become a rival for the top messenger like Whatsapp, viber and line.

To get Chadder follow the links below
Windows Phone users can find the appapp here in their Store
Android Users can find their version here on Google Play

In Love With IFTTT

Well I'm loving the IFTTT on my android device. I recently used the recipe which delivers me a daily mail with a new recipe.
I felt this recipe is really useful
Here's a screenshot below see for yourself

This is really helpful.

Things To Do With IFTTT

We're pretty fond of IFTTT around these parts. Last year, the company released an iOS app and we got a ton of new recipes designed just for the iPhone. Now, it's on Android. Here's what you can do with it.
Here are some of the many things you can do with your new found Android-y IFTTT powers.

Get Custom Notifications for Anything

All the New Stuff in IFTTT for Android and What You Can Do With It
Android has a pretty powerful notification system. While it's been possible to use IFTTT to send information to your shade with Pushbullet before, the new notifications channel removes the middle man. You can get direct notifications letting you know about the day's weather, when a particular stock reaches a certain price, or if any of your Foursquare friends are nearby. If it can be triggered by IFTTT, you can get it in your shade.

Automatically Change Your Phone's Volume or Wallpaper

All the New Stuff in IFTTT for Android and What You Can Do With It
Tasker has been a Lifehacker favorite for a long time partly because of its ability to micro manage key device functionality like volume and ringtones. IFTTT's new device channels allows you to set the volume of your device, mute your ringtones, or change your wallpaper based on specific triggers. It can also trigger other events based on when you connect or disconnect from a certain Wi-Fi networks. So you can text your spouse when you reach work, set an Instagram photo as your wallpaper, or mute your phone when you get to work.

Log Your Location or Send a Text When You Arrive

All the New Stuff in IFTTT for Android and What You Can Do With It
The new location channel performs a lot of the same functions that Locale—the old school plugin many Android aficionados swore by—has done. You can trigger actions based on when you enter or exit an area, giving you wonderful powers like texting your spouse when you leave work, logging your time at work to a Google Calendar, or if you've got some of those fancy smart bulbs, turning the lights on when you get home. After all, it's dangerous to enter without lights on.

Log Your Phone Calls and Get Reminders of Missed Calls

All the New Stuff in IFTTT for Android and What You Can Do With It
The phone channel is aware of incoming, missed, or outgoing calls, whether to a specific number or in general. With this, you can text someone to let them know you'll call them back, store a log of your calls in Google Drive, or set a reminder for yourself to called them back. The latter will be particularly helpful for those of us who forget that our phones can be used as actual phones and never answer calls.

Automatically Backup and Manage Your Photos

All the New Stuff in IFTTT for Android and What You Can Do With It
If you're a Dropbox user that takes a lot of photos, you've probably already enabled Auto Upload. For everyone else, IFTTT's newphotos channel can send your pictures you to your storage location of choice. You canautomatically upload to Google Drive oremail screenshots to yourself. You can even combine it with the device channel to change your wallpaper to the last photo you took.

Schedule or Automatically Send Text Messages

All the New Stuff in IFTTT for Android and What You Can Do With It
In case you haven't noticed throughout many of the other recipes on this list, IFTTT also includes an SMS channel that allows you to send messages, or act on received ones. You can use it to backup your messages to Google Drive, sync messages between devices, or any of the many, many other recipes we've already linked to.
There are a good number of recipes already due to the private beta, but now that the app is out in the open, we'll see a bunch of new ones coming out over the next few weeks.
Its a must try and thanks to lifehackers
